Boston Business Journal: New Boston-based initiative aims to give retiring athletes a second chance in property industry

By Grant Welker – Reporter, Boston Business Journal A nonprofit program that helps people from underrepresented backgrounds get ahead in commercial real estate is expanding to help a new group: professional athletes.
The new initiative, to be based in Boston, is aimed at retiring pros, who often made good money for a short period of time — but then have to find a new career while still in their 20s or 30s.
Called 3P, for Pro Players Property, the program plans to start its first cohort of students next year.
Taneshia Nash Laird is launching the program from Project REAP, which helps real estate firms diversify their workforce and those from underrepresented backgrounds get a foothold into an industry that’s typically had high barriers to entry. Laird, who became Project REAP’s executive director last fall, has put the foundation in place for the athletes program in part from a career-long connection with athletes.
